Rumelihisari castle
Rumelihisari castle is situated on a hill on the European side of the Bosphorus in Istanbul. Its beauty is magnificent as it challenged the terrain to become a miracle of construction.
Rumelihisari castle is an important historic landmark of Istanbul overlooking the Bosphorus and is distinguished by its high walls and towers. When its construction was finished, cannons of different dimensions were placed inside, along with 400 well-chosen soldiers, lead by “Firuz Aga” whom Sultan Mehmed depended on extensively. He ordered Firuz Aga to stop all ships passing through the canal and oblige them to salut the Sandzak, have their ships searched, and collecting an appropriate fee from the cargo, while sinking any ship that doesn’t follow orders. Firuz Aga was ready to follow the orders immediately, for example, he sشnk a Venetian ship in the month Shaban corresponding to the month of August due to its refusal to obey orders.
Sultan Mehmed has mentioned to the delegation sent by the Byzantine Emperor, who showed his objection on this constructions, that this is a security measure, indicating that the site of Rumerlihisari doesn’t belong to Byzantium or the Southerns, and it is a crossing point that belongs only to the Turks.
